The Staff Senate is one of the ways all non-faculty salaried and non-student wage staff can participate in shared governance at Virginia Tech. The Senate is made up of elected representatives from each college and administrative area of the university.

The Senate meets on the third Thursday of each month, from Noon-1:00 pm. All non-faculty salaried and non-student wage staff are welcome to attend any meeting.

Notice: Authorized Closing Information – Blacksburg Campus, Jan. 15, 2020

A gas leak required evacuation of some buildings/areas on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020. Building closures occurred between 10 a.m. and Noon and the buildings reopened at 4 p.m.

Employees impacted by the closure should record Authorized Closing (AC) on their leave reports for the number of hours they were unable to work their normal schedule during the evacuation period. If the building reopened during the employees’ regular work schedule, but the department chose not to reopen, AC should also be recorded for that time. Authorized closing leave is meant to ensure that employees are not adversely impacted with a requirement to use their own leave, but should not create an overtime situation.
